As most people know, Amazon has been in the running to buy the rights of The Lord of the Rings tv series.  Around $250 million later, Amazon Studios is now the proud owner of a fantasy universe.

According to a press release,  Lord of the Ring original series will be produced by Amazon Studios and in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust; HarperCollins; and New Line Cinema (Which produced the movie franchise.)

“We are delighted that Amazon, with its longstanding commitment to literature, is the home of the first-ever multi-season television series for The Lord of the Rings,” said Matt Galsor, a representative for the Tolkien Estate and Trust and HarperCollins. “Sharon and the team at Amazon Studios have exceptional ideas to bring to the screen previously unexplored stories based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s original writings.”

While still set in Middle Earth the multiseason series will tell the stories that have yet to be seen on the silver screen.

The press release did not give a date or even a year that we can expect to be able to binge watch this Amazon Original, but it did specify that it will be available to all Prime members with no additional cost.
